Robert Grunder is a seasoned fine art professional with over two decades of experience and expertise, currently serving as Executive Director of Joseph K. Levene Fine Art, Ltd. Joining the company in 2001, Robert quickly advanced to Director in 2003 and was promoted to Executive Director in 2019. In this role, Robert provides insightful curatorial advice, guiding clients in building cohesive and distinguished art collections. His responsibilities encompass marketing, new business development and offering advisory services and curatorial expertise to private and corporate clients. Before his tenure at Joseph K. Levene Fine Art, Ltd., Robert held management positions at the prestigious Marlborough Gallery in New York and artnet.com, further honing his expertise in the art world.
Mr. Grunder earned an MFA in painting and art history from the esteemed New York Academy of Art, founded by the legendary Pop artist Andy Warhol. During his studies, Robert was privileged to collaborate with several influential Post War & Contemporary Artists, including Mark Tansey and Eric Fischl, gaining invaluable insights and deepening his artistic perspective.
An accomplished artist himself, Robert’s work has garnered critical acclaim, including a review in The New York Times, highlighting the depth and quality of his creative vision. This combination of professional achievements and artistic talent positions Robert Grunder as a versatile and respected figure in the world of fine art.
A graduate of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Joseph K. Levene began collecting art at the age of 12 when he purchased a 1946 Alexander Calder drawing from the legendary Perls Gallery, a work that remains in his collection. Son of legendary Broadway and film actor Sam Levene, Joseph K. Levene's art credentials span several decades; notably Joseph has extensive fine art expertise and perspective as an art dealer, art collector, fine art executive and selling art online.
Before establishing Joseph K. Levene Fine Art, Ltd. in 1991, Joseph K. Levene served as President and COO of Petersburg Press, Inc., the International fine art publisher of limited editions by Jim Dine, David Hockney, Howard Hodgkin, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, James Rosenquist and Frank Stella. Prior to becoming a full time art dealer, Joseph had a successful advertising career at numerous advertising agencies including Saatchi & Saatchi where Joe was a Management Supervisor for leading Procter & Gamble and Bristol-Myers packaged goods brands before becoming a Partner at Smith/Greenland.
